JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two North Carolina Central University jumpers, junior
Joidon Boddie and freshman
Lamont Victoria, have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships East First Round on May 24-27 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
Victoria will open regional championship action for the Eagles on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the men's high jump, while Boddie will compete in the women's triple jump on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Boddie (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a qualifying mark of 12.67 meters in the triple jump on May 14 at the Diesels Last Chance Meet, but achieved a career-best wind-aided distance of 12.83m to claim victory at the Vertklasse Meet on April 1. After winning the MEAC championship in the women's triple jump during the indoor season, she also captured the gold medal as the MEAC outdoor champion with a jump of 12.52m.
Victoria (Prince George, Va.), who claimed the men's high jump MEAC indoor title in February, repeated as the conference champion during the outdoor campaign. He soared a season-best 2.11m to earn his second MEAC gold medal in 2023.
