BOONE, N.C. – North Carolina Central University outdoor track and field teams combined for four event victories during the App State Open in Boone on Saturday.
NCCU sophomore
Brenden Finger won the men's high jump for the second straight meet, clearing 1.93 meters, up from 1.88m a week ago.
Senior
Donnell Carter captured his second triumph of the outdoor season by running a time of 47.13 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash.
Freshmen
Laila Jackson and
Gianna Marquez picked up their first wins of the outdoor season on Saturday. Jackson beat the field with a time of 2:14.94 in the women's 800m run, while Marquez was the first to cross the finish line in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.03.
Fellow freshman
Tia Lucas was the women's high jump runner-up with a height of 1.62m, while junior
Joidon Boddie finished in second place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.26m.
The men's 4x400m relay squad of Carter,
Casee Jones,
Corey Little, and
Octavious Smith also placed second with a time of 3:22.59.
NCCU will compete in the MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 9-11 in Norfolk, Virginia.
