DURHAM, N.C. – Track and field jumper Joidon Boddie and quarterback Davius Richard were announced as the North Carolina Central University Women's and Men's Student-Athletes of the Year on Monday, April 24, during the annual NCCU Athletics awards ceremony, The Eddies.
Boddie, a junior from Raleigh, has won five triple jump events so far in 2023, including the MEAC indoor women's triple jump championship in February. She currently ranks No. 1 in the conference and 61st in NCAA Division I in the outdoor triple jump. Boddie soared a career-best 12.83 meters (42 feet, 1.25 inches) on April 1, for the best mark during NCCU's Division I era (since 2007) and the second-best in the NCCU records book.
Richard, a junior from Belle Glade, Florida, was voted as the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year after being named conference offensive player of the week seven times, leading the Eagles to the league title and a HBCU national championship. He topped the MEAC in passing yards (2,486), passing touchdowns (24), and rushing touchdowns (13), ranked fifth in the nation in points responsible for (20.4) and 12th in total offense (288.8), and broke NCCU single-season records for pass completions (199) and pass completion percentage (64.0%).
The Chancellor's Award, presented to the graduating senior men's and women's student-athletes with the highest overall grade point average, was earned by cheerleader Arianne Brown-Stephenson (Fayetteville, N.C.), and quarterback Davius Richard (Belle Glade, Fla.).
