GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team was swept 7-0 by North Carolina A&T State University at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
NCCU had a quartet of freshmen compete in singles action.
Kareem Abdul Hakim battled but was outlasted by Vasil Ivanov 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2), while
Naresh Bharathy was beaten by Alex Martinez 6-4, 6-4.
Facundo Olmedo was tripped by Mathieu Dussaubult 6-2, 6-3, and
Neiman Sneed fell to Ian Pedersen 6-0, 6-0.
Graduate student
Sebastian Pino was defeated by Esteban Lopez 6-1, 6-2, and sophomore
Oliver Saarinen was beaten by Eder Blanco 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles action, Pino/Saarinen beat Ivanov/Lopez 6-3, Olmedo teamed up with senior
LaQuon Gilchrist and was clipped by Dussaubult/Pedersen 6-0, and junior
Shaka Cristellotti and freshman
Liam Murtaugh fell to Blanco/Martinez 6-0.
Up next, NCCU (5-14) will travel to Norfolk Virginia to battle the Spartans of Norfolk State University on Saturday, April 8.
