NORFOLK, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team defeated Norfolk State University 4-3 inside the Virginia Beach Country Club on Saturday afternoon.
In singles action, sophomore
Oliver Saarinen beat Hugo Massoni Lena 6-2, 6-0, while junior
Shaka Cristellotti defeated Roosevelt Brown III 6-0, 6-0.
Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week
Facundo Olmedo beat Ibrahim Abbas 6-2, 6-1, while his classmate
Kareem Abdul Hakim clipped Adam Kaczmarek 6-3, 6-2.
NCCU graduate student
Sebastian Pino fell to Federico Rebecchini 7-5, 6-1, while freshman
Naresh Bharathy was outlasted by Boris Lunin 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Abdul Hakim/Bharathy beat Brown/Abbas (6-1), Sarrinen/Pino fell to Rebecchini/Kaczmarek (7-6), and Cristellotti teamed up with freshman
Liam Murtaugh and was defeated by Lena/Lunin (7-6).
NCCU (6-14, 3-1 MEAC) will close out regular season MEAC competition with a battle against South Carolina State University at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina at 2 p.m.
