CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Howard University on the final day of the 2023 MEAC Round-Up on Saturday afternoon.
Graduate Student
Sebastian Pino clipped Justin Cadeau 6-3, 6-2, while junior
Shaka Cristellotti beat Gabe Knowles, 6-4, 6-0.
A pair of NCCU freshmen went unblemished during the three-match slate in Cary.
Naresh Bharathy outlasted Hassimiyou Dieng (7-5, 6-4), and
Facundo Olmedo defeated Pierce Westbrook (6-1, 6-0).
Freshman
Kareem Abdul Hakim picked up his fourth victory of the season in a hard-fought battle with Daniel Dunac (6-4, 3-6, 10-8).
Sophomore
Oliver Saarinen fell to Marcel Dawson 6-2, 6-3 for the Bison's lone point.
In doubles, Pino/Saarinen defeated Dawson/Cadeau 6-3, Bharathy/Abdul Hakim beat Knowles/Dunac 6-3, and Cristellotti and freshman
Liam Murtaugh's match against Hassimiyou/Westbrook went unfinished.
Up next, NCCU (4-12, 2-1 MEAC) will return to action on Saturday, March 25 when they host UNC Asheville at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts.
