DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team was swept by No. 4 Duke inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday night.
Sophomore
Kennedy Hill was defeated by 22nd-ranked Emma Jackson (6-2, 6-0) while her classmates
Isabelle Exsted and
Lafi Joao were clipped by Katie Codd (6-0, 6-0) and Karolina Berankova (6-1, 6-1).
Current MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week junior
Jade Houston fought hard but was outlasted by Brianna Shvets 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman
Candice Bernier fell 6-1, 6-0 to Ellie Coleman while reigning MEAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was beaten by Iulia Bryzgalova 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Hill and Bernier fell to Jackson and Bryzgalova and Joao and Houston were defeated by Coleman and Berankova (both 6-0) to give the Blue Devils the point.
Up next, NCCU (1-4) will host Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts at 11:00 a.m.
