NCCU Men’s Hoops Flies by Virginia Lynchburg in Home Opener

DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Po'Boigh King scored a career-high 26 points, with three additional Eagles finishing in double figures for North Carolina Central University on Thursday's home opener, defeating Virginia University of Lynchburg 107-54.

King was 4-6 from the arc and was perfect from the charity stripe. His 26 points topped all scorers and surpassed his career high of 25 at his previous school Harcum College. Senior Ja'Darius Harris netted 20 points and dished out four assists. Harris went 8-11 from the field.

NCCU (1-1) collected double-digit contributions from sophomore Perry Smith Jr. and senior Fred Cleveland Jr. The duo scored 12 and 11, respectively. As a team, men's basketball shot over 50 percent in field goals (57.5), three-pointers (53.3), and free throws (86.7) in the first half.

Junior Timmy Adedire and senior Emmanuel Izunabor collected the most boards for the Eagles. Adedire had a game and career-high 10 rebounds, followed by eight from Izunabor.

Sophomore Josh Smith passed a team-high of seven assists, which was more than Virginia Lynchburg had as a team for the game (five). Junior Kye Dickson's active hands rewarded him with four steals on the evening.

Virginia Lynchburg (0-3) was led by Jahmir Brown who finished with 15 points. Zachary Dunn and Mark Fraiser also grabbed seven rebounds each.

The Eagles travel to the University of Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 12 for a 5 p.m. matchup. The game will be streamed on SEC Network +.
