DOVER, Del. – Graduate student
Jeslyn Spencer supplied a team-high eight kills for sixth-seeded North Carolina Central University in a 3-0 MEAC Volleyball Championship quarterfinals loss to host and third-seeded Delaware State University on Friday night.
The defending champion Hornets advanced after hitting .364 in the 25-16, 25-17, 25-12 triumph. That hitting percentage was Delaware State's (17-12 Overall) second highest mark of the season.
Spencer highlighted play for the Eagles with her eight kills and a .263 hitting percentage. The sophomore duo of
Emmie Modlin and
Kamren Harper followed with six kills apiece.

Bella Dearinger chipped in 21 assists and NCCU's only ace. Junior libero
Loren Johnson led the Eagles with eight digs.
NCCU kept the first set close in the early stages, tying the first set at 8-8 and pulling within one on a kill by Spencer at 10-9, before DSU closed the set on a 15-7 run. The Hornets ripped 18 kills to win the middle stanza. Delaware State closed out the sweep after having its best hitting set (.379) in the third set while holding the Eagles to their worst hitting set (.043).
Sophomore Gerren Tomlin led the victors with nine kills, 10 digs and a season-high six aces. She also had one block assist for 15.5 points.
NC Central ended its 2023 season with a 6-18 overall record.
