DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football redshirt senior wide receiver
E.J. Hicks has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2022 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Hicks capped off his final season with a team-high 84 receiving yards in the Cricket Celebration Bowl on Dec. 17, 2022, while also completing a pair of noteworthy passes in the 41-34 overtime winner against Jackson State University.
The local Rolesville, North Carolina, resident completed a 31-yard pass to quarterback
Davius Richard and later connected with Richard again on a key two-point conversion. Hicks finished with 115 yards of total offense in the nationally televised game on ABC that capped off a 10-win season and secured a HBCU national championship for the Eagles.
Hicks found the end zone seven times during NCCU's most successful campaign at the NCAA Division I level, while also leading the team in receiving yards per game.
Over five seasons, Hicks played in 36 games for the maroon and gray with 1,243 total receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
Hicks graduated from NCCU just one week prior to the Cricket Celebration Bowl in December of 2022. The Kinesiology major finished his undergraduate studies at NCCU with a 3.477 cumulative grade point average. Hicks, who is currently training towards professional football, has interest in coaching.
