DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by No. 20 Duke University inside the Blue Devils' Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday night.
The Eagles lost the doubles point to begin the afternoon as junior
Shaka Cristellotti and freshman
Liam Murtaugh were defeated by Connor and Jake Krug (6-1). The freshmen duo of
Kareem Abdul Hakim and
Neiman Sneed fell to Garrett Johns and Pedro Rodenas (6-1).
In singles action, graduate student
Sebastian Pino was defeated by No. 4 Garrett Johns 6-2, 6-3, while sophomore
Oliver Saarinen was dropped 6-1, 6-1 by No. 84 Rodenas. Cristellotti fell 6-0, 6-0 to Heller.
The NCCU rookies continue to gain experience against stout competition.
Freshman
Facundo Olmedo was beaten 6-2, 6-0 by Andrew Dale, Abdul Hakim was defeated by Connor Krug (6-1, 6-2), and Sneed fell to Faris Khan (6-1, 6-2).
Up next, NCCU (0-2) will take on Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
