DURHAM, N.C. – Four double-figure scorers lift the North Carolina Central University men's basketball team over Delaware State University 74-55 to earn its third-straight MEAC win. The victory extends the Eagles' home game winning streak to 10, dating back to the end of last season (3/3/22).
In the first half, the maroon and gray jumped out to a 10-3 lead before the first media time-out. The Hornets responded and took a 16-15 lead at the 10:51 mark. The Eagles led the rest of the half and closed out the stanza with a 13-4 scoring run to give them a 34-24 advantage at the break.
Senior guard
Marque Maultsby got off to a scorching start, hitting four of his first five shots of the game, including three triples to have 11 points at the intermission. Graduate student Brendan Medley also had a strong first half, posting 13 points, while being perfect from the charity stripe (7-7).
The Eagles kept the momentum rolling into the second half and led by as many as 18 points early on. With 7:56 remaining in the contest, DSU cut the deficit to 10 (56-46). The maroon and gray responded with an 18-9 run to close out the contest.
Medley-Bacon ended the contest with 21 points, seven rebounds, and swatted seven shots. His seven blocks tie the most by an Eagle in the Division-I era (Nate Maxey 2014). The overall single-game blocks record is held by Adrian McKinnon who registered eight against NC A&T in 1989.
Also stuffing the stat sheet was senior forward
Kris Monroe who tallied 15 points and snagged 13 boards to record his third double-double of the season. His 13 rebounds tie his career-best that he set earlier this season against Montreat.
After the strong first half, Maultsby finished the game with 16 points, while senior guard
Justin Wright hit three of six field goals and was perfect (4-4) from the foul line to score 10 points. Wright also collected five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Senior guard
Eric Boone paced the Eagles' offense with seven assists. He also grabbed seven rebounds and two steals.
