DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team will host South Carolina State University inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday, January 14 at 4 p.m. The action will be available to watch via streaming on the NCCU Sports Network.
NCCU COURT (8-8, 1-1 MEAC):
The Eagles come into the matchup after picking up their first MEAC victory of the season against Coppin State on Monday night and are a perfect 7-0 in home games. NCCU boasts the conference's best scoring margin (10.9) by scoring the second most points per contest (78.5) and being tied for the fewest points allowed per game (67.6) with Maryland Eastern Shore.
The maroon and gray offense features three individuals that are double-figure scorers. Junior guard
Justin Wright leads the team with 15.8 points per contest while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc.
Graduate student forward Brenden Medley-Bacon and senior forward
Kris Monroe average 10.2 and 10.1 points, while snagging 5.2 and 5.5 boards, respectively.
Senior guard
Eric Boone dishes out 5.1 assists per game, which is the best mark in the MEAC and 33rd best nationally. Boone also leads the conference in steals per game with 2.3.
SCSU COURT (3-15, 0-2 MEAC):
The Bulldogs come into the contest having lost at Morgan State on Monday night. Offensively, the team is led by Lesown Hallums, Jr. who averages 13 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Rakeim Gary also chips in with 11.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and hands out a team-high 2.8 helpers. Davion Everett leads the team in rebounds, hauling in 6.1 per contest while averaging 7 points.
