NCCU’s Simpkins, U’Ren Claim MEAC Football Weekly Awards

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University sophomore Torricelli Simpkins III and redshirt freshman linebacker Max U'Ren earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly football awards for their performances during the Eagles' 41-0 shutout victory over Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Simpkins was named MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week, while U'Ren was selected as the MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Simpkins (OL, 6-5, 310, So., Charlotte, N.C.) recorded seven pancake blocks and graded out at 84 percent against Winston-Salem State as the Eagles racked up 519 yards of total offense with 260 yards on the ground. In 66 snaps, Simpkins did not give up a sack or commit a penalty.

U'Ren (LB, 6-2, 225, r-Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) was a key part in the Eagles posting their first shutout since 2017, collecting a team-high five tackles (three solo) in the contest, including a tackle for loss.

Up next, NCCU visits Durham, New Hampshire, to play No. 25 University of New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 17.
