DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University softball senior Madison Mifsud has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2022 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
 
Mifsud was named Third Team All-MEAC in her final season with the Eagles just before being celebrated as a class valedictorian during the spring 2022 graduation commencement.
 
As a senior, Mifsud started all 48 games and finished with a .268 batting average playing between catcher, first base and designated player. She finished with four home runs and a team-best 29 RBI.
 
Mifsud hails from Jacksonville, Florida, and led NCCU with 18 RBI in 21 league games. She hit three of her four home runs in those tilts. Mifsud capped her collegiate career by making the 2022 MEAC All-Tournament Team after batting .500 with six RBI in three postseason games.
 
During an eight-game hit streak, Mifsud had four-RBI performances with a home run against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. She added a third four-RBI outing in league play in a 3-for-3 contest against Coppin State.
 
Mifsud played in 137 total games in her four seasons at NCCU, including 131 starts. She accumulated 91 hits – including 11 doubles, one triple and four home runs – to go along with 50 RBI, 31 runs and 12 stolen bases.
 
In her time representing the maroon and gray, Mifsud was annually tabbed with the NCCU softball Eagle Excellence award, MEAC All-Academic Team honors and MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team distinction before securing the NCCU Chancellor's Award for highest GPA as a senior.
 
Mifsud graduated from NCCU in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree as a criminal justice major with a concentration in homeland security and a minor in political science. She finished with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) to earn class valedictorian status and the Award for Academic Excellence for a graduating senior in criminal justice at the 73rd annual Honors Convocation. Mifsud also earned recognition for outstanding community service by the Department of Criminal Justice.
 
Mifsud plans to work in the field of homeland security and emergency management, and is applying for a commission in the coast guard.
