NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina Central University senior
Marvin Jones leaped a career-best seven feet (2.13 meters) on his final attempt to win the men's high jump championship at the 2022 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday, May 12.
Jones made history by becoming the first NCCU Eagle in the Division-I era to capture three MEAC gold medals, having also won the high jump at the 2022 indoor and 2021 outdoor conference championships.Â
The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native is the sixth individual to capture hardware four times since NCCU rejoined the MEAC, as he secured a bronze medal during the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Two weeks prior to the conference championship meet, Jones won the high jump at the prestigious Penn Relays with a leap of 2.12m, just shy of his winning seven-foot mark at the MEAC championship event.
Jones will now prepare for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round on May 27 in Bloomington, Indiana.
