BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior
Maegan Garrison drove in the only North Carolina Central University run in a 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference softball road loss to Morgan State University on Sunday morning.
NC Central concludes its regular season with an 11-34 overall record and an 8-13 ledger in league play. The Eagles will enter the 2022 MEAC Softball Championship (May 11-14) hosted by Norfolk State University as the fifth seed and will play the fourth seed in the opening round. The full postseason bracket with game times will be published by the MEAC soon.
The Bears clinched the 2022 MEAC softball regular season title with the series sweep of the Eagles and will be the top seed in the MEAC Softball Championships. Morgan State (29-13, 18-3) is the defending conference tourney champions.
NCCU tallied three doubles win the contest and used back-to-back doubles in the top of the seventh to generate its run. Mifsud got to second base with a hit to center and then she scored on Garrison's two-bagger to right field.
Freshman
Jaden Davis had the other double for the Eagles, but NCCU was outhit 9-4. Davis, who finished with a team-best .319 batting average in the regular season, also tossed a complete-game for the maroon and gray. Only three of the six runs allowed by Davis were earned and she struck out six, matching her season-high K total.
Morgan State scored runs in four different innings to extend its win streak to 14 games. Junior Asia Thomas led the victors with three hits, including a triple, and one RBI. Fifth-year senior Tayven Rousseau chipped a home run to begin the bottom of the third inning.
