HIGH POINT, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University track and field teams earned 12 top-10 finishes at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University. This is the second meet of the outdoor season where the Eagles were able to achieve double-digit top-10 marks, with the first being the Seahawk Invitational.
 
Senior Marvin Jones and freshman Brenden Finger soared to second-place finishes in their respective flights of the men's high jump. Jones leaped 2.10 meters in group A and Finger jumped 1.95m in group B. Jones was one of five individuals to jump at least 2.00m.
 
In the women's triple jump, sophomore Joidon Boddie finished sixth with an 11.73m mark and freshman Taylor Small leaped 11.47m to place eighth. Also soaring to a top-10 placement on the day was sophomore Alejandra Urraca who earned eighth place in the women's high jump with a 1.51m effort.
 
Additionally in the field, NCCU throwers collected three total top-10 finishes. Sophomore Matthew Swespson finished seventh and set a new personal best in the men's discus with a 44.72m toss. Freshmen Mason Grubbs and Nelson Anderson tossed the shot put 13.45m and 13.24m to place sixth and ninth, respectively.
 
On the track, sophomore Asia Bly sprinted the women's 100m dash in 12.07 seconds to place seventh. Junior Tracey Manigault placed ninth in the women's 200m race after finishing in 25.55 seconds.
 
The combination of _Bly, Manigault, and Small was joined by junior Jordan Braxton to sprint the women's 4x100m relay with a time of 47.51 to place fifth. Manigault along with classmates Ariana Harrell and Emmaya Waters and Olivia Andrews ran the 4x400m relay in 3:58.66 to be the third unit to cross the finish line.
 
Up next, the maroon and gray will compete in the Duke Invitational, hosted by Duke University on April 8-9.
