GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University track and field teams ended their outdoor regular season with nine top-5 finishes in the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
NCCU senior
Marvin Jones soared 2.06 meters to win the men's high jump as the only participant to jump over 2.00m. For the Hillsborough native, this is his first victory of the outdoor campaign, but the fifth of the calendar year, including a gold medal at the MEAC Indoor Championships. In the same event, freshman
Brenden Finger leaped 1.90m to claim fourth, which is his fifth straight time finishing in the top five this calendar year. His streak began at the Champion College Team Challenge.
Sophomore
Matthew Swepson placed within the top five in three different men's field events. He had the third-best distance in the discus throw with a 43.72m heave. The Durham product finished fourth in the shot put and fifth in the javelin throw with 15.70m and 49.57m tosses, respectively.
Additionally in the field, junior
Jaelyn Blanc leaped a personal-best 14.97m to place third in the men's triple jump. He also claimed sixth place in the long jump with a personal-best 7.09m effort. Sophomore
Joidon Boddie soared a personal-best 12.01m to place third in the women's triple jump.
On the track, senior
Ashton Drake finished the men's 3000m steeplechase as the runner up in 10:01.63. Juniors
Emmaya Waters and Arianna Harrell combined with senior
Olivia Andrews and sophomore
Kianna Bell to run to a third-place finish in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:53.30.
Up next, the maroon and gray will travel to Norfolk, Virginia, to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 12-14.
