NCCU Eagles Excel in Action-Packed T&F Weekend

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University track and field teams had representation at both the Duke Invitational, hosted by nearby Duke University, and the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University on April 7-9.
 
In Durham, senior Marvin Jones leaped 2.06 meters to finish third out of 19 competitors in the men's high jump. He was one of six individuals to have a mark over 2.00m. Classmate Gordon Lewis ran the men's 200-meter dash in 21.97 seconds to place 21st out of 53 participants.
 
Additionally in the field at Duke, senior Micah Fulton soared a personal-best 11.85m to place eighth out of 30 total competitors in the women's triple jump. In the same event, sophomore Joidon Boddie placed 14th with an 11.44m attempt. Fulton also finished in the top half of the women's long jump with a 5.56m effort to place 17th out of 56 individuals.
 
Sophomore Matthew Swepson stayed active as he posted top-15 marks at both meets. In Greensboro, he placed sixth out of 31 competitors in the men's javelin throw with a 48.35m toss. He also finished 13th out of 53 competitors in the men's discus with a distance of 41.95m. At Duke, he placed 15th out of 28 competitors in the men's shot put with a 14.74m throw.
 
On the track in the Aggie Invitational, junior Ariana Harrell finished the women's 800m race with a time of 2:15.91 to place seventh out of 80 participants. In the men's 800m race, sophomore Leroy Scarver finished in 1:56.20 to earn ninth place out of 55 competitors. Also finishing the same race in under two minutes, was junior Isaiah Hunter, who finished in 1:59.73 to place 17th. Junior Emmaya Waters ran the women's 400m hurdles in 1:03.02 to claim seventh place out of 40 individuals. Senior Olivia Andrews sprinted the women's 400m dash in 58.64 seconds to place 23rd out of 74 participants.
 
In the field in Greensboro, freshman Nelson Anderson placed 14th in the men's javelin throw with a 35.52m mark, while classmate Anyae Lindsay soared 4.97m in the women's long jump to claim 14th place out of 69 contestants.
 
Up next, the maroon and gray will compete in the Norfolk State Invitational on April 15-16.
