GREENVILLE, Miss. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team did not even lose a single game on the day in rolling to a 4-0 non-conference victory over host Mississippi Valley State University on Monday afternoon at the Cypress Hills Tennis Club.
The Eagles improved to 2-8 on the season while the Delta Devils remained winless at 0-7.
Senior
Amit Baran and freshman
Oliver Saarinen both went 2-0 on the day. All four other NCCU players were in strong position to do the same in the unfinished matches on the day, but doubles and singles were stopped after clinching points were secured as predetermined by both teams.
Baran and Saarinen won their third and fourth positioned singles matches, respectively, by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sophomore
Shaka Cristellotti did the same on court five as he was NCCU's clinching point for the second time in four days.
Saarinen and Cristellotti have both won two consecutive matches. Baran's triumph was his first of his final season.
Saarinen partnered with senior
Sebastian Pino for a second straight doubles win, coasting to a flawless 6-0 score. Baran and senior
Miles Clark then secured the doubles point with their first win together this season by the same score.
NC Central will continue its spring break trip with a match at Jackson State University on Tuesday at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST).
