FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior Miles Clark posted a straight-set triumph atop the North Carolina Central University singles lineup in a 6-1 road loss at Longwood University Thursday afternoon.
Clark used matching 6-3 set wins to secure his team-leading sixth singles win of the season. The two-time MEAC Player of the Week defeated fifth-year senior Rosen Naydenov in the No. 1 singles battle.
The Eagles had one other win on the day as senior Sebastian Pino and freshman Oliver Saarinen coasted to a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Pino and Saarinen have won five straight matches together and they have now moved over .500 on the season at 7-6.
However, the Lancers used a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles and then held off NCCU's top doubles tandem 7-5 to secure the first team point. Longwood would then claim the bottom five singles matches in straight sets to earn the team victory and level its record on the season at 7-7.
NC Central (3-13) is next play three consecutive home matches to conclude its regular season, beginning with a MEAC tilt against Norfolk State University on Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m.
