CONWAY, S.C. – In the top singles match, sophomore Mathilde Tranberg needed to rally to defeat fellow sophomore
Jade Houston in three sets to help complete a 7-0 sweep for the Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team in a non-conference match against visiting North Carolina Central University on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers (1-2 Overall) picked up their first win of the season while the Eagles (0-1) were making their season debut.
In the tightest match of the day, Houston won the first set on court one before Tranberg tied the match with a 6-1 win in the second set before securing the victory with a 10-5 superset triumph in the third set.
Coastal Carolina won both completed doubles matches 6-0 and won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Rounding out the Eagles singles lineup was freshman No. 2
Kennedy Hill (L, 6-3, 7-5), sophomore No. 3
Maria Picazo (L, 6-4, 6-3), freshman No. 4
Isabelle Exsted (L, 6-2, 6-0), freshman No. 5
Lafi Joao (L, 6-4, 6-2) and freshman No. 6
Anaiah Jones (6-0, 6-0).
NC Central is next slated to hit the courts at UNCG on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
