LYNCHBURG, Va. – The North Carolina Central University track and field teams traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete in the Liberty University Open on Saturday and brought home 13 top-10 finishes, including a victory in the men's high jump by senior Marvin Jones.
 
Six out of the eight top-10 finishes by the Eagles' field teams were recorded by jumpers. Jones soared 2.06 meters to win the men's high jump for the second meet in-a-row, while freshman Brenden Finger placed eighth in the same event with a 1.86m mark. For the women, senior Zinzili Kelley stayed busy, earning eighth and 10th in the long jump and triple jump with 5.40m and 11.04m leaps. Sophomore Joidon Boddie and senior Micah Fulton placed seventh and eighth in the triple jump with 11.44m and 11.40m distances, respectively.
 
In the throwing competitions, senior Xavier Lenear placed ninth in the men's weight throw with a 14.64m mark, while sophomore Saniah Oneil earned 10th place in the women's shot put with a 9.97m toss.
 
On the track, junior Donnell Carter raced to a second place finish in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.83 seconds. Junior Isaiah Hunter ran the men's 800m race in 1:57.52 to finish sixth in the event. Carter and Hunter then joined seniors Gordon Lewis and Mackenson Yrelus to run the 4x400m relay in 3:18.60 to claim third place in the race.
 
Freshman Victoria Swepson placed fourth in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:18.82. She then combined with senior Olivia Andrews, and juniors Emmaya Waters and Ariana Harrell to run the women's 4x400m relay race, finishing in 3:59.38 to place fourth.
 
NCCU returns to action at the Champion College Team Challenge at the JDL Fast Track on Feb. 10 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
