WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sophomore
Jaylah Barr accounted for the lone North Carolina Central University hit in a 12-0 loss to Canisius College to conclude play for the Eagles at a three-day tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington on Sunday morning.
After scoring a dozen runs in the first five innings, redshirt senior Emily Nicosia was just two outs from a no hitter when Barr produced her single through the left side of the infield with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Nicosia (3-0) retired the next two batters to finish of her complete-game shutout with three strikeouts.
Offensively, Nicosia helped her own cause with a game-high four RBI, including a home run.
Canisius went 4-1 over the weekend to improve to 8-5 on the season.
NC Central (2-11) next visits rival North Carolina A&T State University for a single game in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday, March 1 at 2:30 p.m.
