DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman
Lafi Joao notched a straight-set victory to account for the lone North Carolina Central University women's tennis point in a 6-1 home loss to UNC Asheville on Friday.
Joao only lost two games in rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for the Eagles.
Joao (2-3) now has two wins in her rookie season to move into a three-way tie for the team lead in singles victories with fellow freshmen
Kennedy Hill and
Isabelle Exsted.
The Bulldogs remained perfect on the season at 7-0 after they won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
UNCA started the day with 6-0 and 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to secure the first point.
The only singles match to go three sets happened on court two, where UNCA senior Liz Alet Morkel rallied to defeat Hill by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
NC Central (0-5) will next host Hampton University on Friday, March 4 at noon.
