VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – North Carolina Central University seniors
Marvin Jones and
Micah Fulton soared to gold medal victories in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships that wrapped up on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Jones earned his second career conference championship in the men's high jump with a 2.10-meter leap. For the Hillsborough, North Carolina native, this is his third career MEAC medal. He claimed a bronze medal during the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and captured a gold medal in the high jump during the 2021 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Fulton, a native of Pasadena, California, leaped a personal-best 12.02m to win the conference title in the women's triple jump. She was one of two individuals in the event to jump more than 12 meters. Additionally, she set a personal-best in the long jump with a 5.40m effort to place seventh.
Also medaling for the Eagles were freshman
Victoria Swepson and sophomore
Matthew Swepson. Victoria ran a personal-best 5:09.41 in the women's one-mile run to obtain the silver medal. She just missed out on the bronze medal in the 800m race, finishing in fourth place (2:17.22). Matthew captured the bronze medal and set a new career mark in the men's shot put with a 15.68m toss.
Seniors
Gordon Lewis and
Mackenson Yrelus combined with juniors
Isaiah Hunter and
Donnell Carter to sprint to a bronze medal in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:14.35. For Lewis, this is his second MEAC medal. He stood on the podium at the 2020 MEAC indoor championships after earning the bronze in the 400m dash. For the other three, this is their first grasp of MEAC medals.
