Marquette Scorches Nets in Win Over NCCU

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - North Carolina Central University received 18 points from guard Justin Wright and 16 points from center Brendan Medley-Bacon, but Marquette University scorched the nets in the first half and cruised to a 90-78 victory over the visiting Eagles on Tuesday night at the Fiserv Forum.

Marquette (7-3) made 22-of-29 shots from the floor (75.9%) in the first half, including 7-of-10 3-pointers, taking a 52-29 advantage into the locker room.

The host Golden Eagles took a commanding 28-point advantage in the first two minutes of the second half, but NCCU demonstrated its resiliency by cutting the deficit to as little as 11 points.

Wright connected on 3-of-6 from long range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to spark his 18-point effort, while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Medley-Bacon posted a perfect shooting performance, making all five field goal attempts and all six free throws, while grabbing seven boards.

Kris Monroe recorded 10 points and eight rebounds for the visiting Eagles, and Fred Cleveland Jr. distributed a career-high eight assists off the bench.

NCCU (5-5) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at LSU at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. CT).
