DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team has announced a 49-game regular season schedule for the spring of 2023.
The Eagles will play majority of their games on the road this season, including their first 25 contests away from home.
NCCU begins its season with five games at the CSU Kickoff Tournament hosted by Charleston Southern University from Friday-Sunday, Feb. 10-12. That will be the first of three weekend tournaments the Eagles will play in as NCCU will also participate in the Winthrop Eagle Invitational hosted by Winthrop University on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26 and the Camel Stampede hosted by Campbell University on Friday-Saturday, March 3-4.
Fans will have a chance to see the Eagles locally early in the season as NCCU will play at all three Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) programs located in the Triangle area over the first 30 days of the season, including University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Tuesday, Feb. 21), Duke University (Wednesday, March 1) and North Carolina State University (Wednesday, March 8).
The Eagles will have to wait until the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, March 25-26 for their first home games at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, but that will begin a five-game homestand. NCCU's home opener will be against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
League play will once again feature three-game weekend series against the other seven MEAC institutions.
Along with Maryland Eastern Shore, NCCU will host conference series against Norfolk State University (April 15-16) and Morgan State University (April 29-30). The set against the Bears will be the last games of the regular season and will serve as Senior Day weekend for the Eagles.
NCCU will have to go on the road for four of its MEAC series with travels to South Carolina State University (March 18-19), Delaware State University (April 1-2), Howard University (April 7-8) and Coppin State University (April 22-23).
The only non-conference midweek games the Eagles will host is a doubleheader against Appalachian State University on Wednesday, March 29.
NCCU will conclude its non-conference slate with games at Gardner-Webb University (March 11-12), Elon University (April 11) and Western Carolina University (April 26).
The 2023 MEAC Softball Championship will once again be hosted by Norfolk State University and it is scheduled to be contested from Wednesday-Saturday, May 10-13.
