DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football junior quarterback Davius Richard has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2022 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
 
Richard accumulated 12 touchdowns and 1,004 total yards of offense in leading the Eagles to four consecutive wins and a perfect 4-0 month of September. Richard threw for 755 yards and seven touchdowns while running for 249 yards and five more scores. He had at least one 20-plus yard pass and one 10-plus yard rush in all four triumphs.
 
In the Duke's Mayo Classic to open the season, Richard racked up four touchdowns – two on the ground and two through the air – in a 28-13 victory over rival North Carolina A&T State University inside Bank of America Stadium. Richard then threw for over 200 yards for a second straight week and rushed for a TD in a 41-0 win over Winston-Salem State University in NCCU's home opener. Richard ran for a season-high 140 yards and had three total touchdowns one week later as NCCU went on the road and picked up a win against a nationally-ranked team, defeating 25th-ranked University of New Hampshire (45-27). The Eagles capped the month with a 59-14 home victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg and Richard racking up four more touchdowns in that fourth consecutive win.
 
For the month, Richard averaged three touchdowns and 251 total yards of offense per game. Richard earned the first three of seven total MEAC Football Offensive Player of the Week honors in September.
 
Richard currently ranks fourth in nation (FCS) in points responsible for with 21.8 points per game, and seventh in total offense with 298.0 yards per game. He also tops the MEAC in passing yards (2,343), passing touchdowns (24), and rushing touchdowns (12).
 
The resident of Belle Glade, Florida, is an All-MEAC Team honoree and MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team student-athlete. He is a member of the NCCU Football Leadership Council (2019-present) and was selected to The 1910 NCCU Male Scholars that is awarded to fewer than 10-percent of minority students at NCCU.
 
Richard has a 3.60 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a business administration major at NCCU. After he graduates in December, Richard plans to pursue an MBA degree.
