DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team came home to McDougald-McLendon Arena after a tough stretch on the road, and came away with a 109-50 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
NCCU (1-3) started slowly, but quickly caught fire, and knocked down 20 field goals at a 76.9 percent rate in the first 20 minutes. The Eagles drilled seven treys on eight attempts, and built up a 54-27 lead at the midway point.
The Eagles stayed hot after the break, and shot 55.0 percent in the second half to go along with 22 more field goals. NCCU finished the game with 42 made field goals at a 63.6 percent clip, and knocked down 10 triples for the first time this year on the way to the 109-50 victory.
All available Eagles checked in, and all but one scored at least one point. Six players scored in double-digits, led by
Justin Wright (Greenville, N.C.) with a new season-best 22 points. Dan Oladapo (Bladensburg, Md.) nearly claimed a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Brendan Medley-Bacon (Baltimore, Md.),
Eric Boone (Lexington, Ky.), and
Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) each recorded 12 points, and
Ja'Darius Harris (Trenton, Tenn.) contributed 10.
Kris Monroe (Raleigh, N.C.) also flirted with a double-double with eight points, and six boards.
Of note, Wright went 3-for-3 from the perimeter in this game, and he is now 7-for-7 in his last two games.
Talik Totten (Ahoskie, N.C.) led MACU (2-0) with 13 points, and Noah Richardson-Keys (Chesterfield, Va.) provided 11 points for the Mustangs.
NCCU will now get ready to host Montreat on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:00 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena before the holiday break.
