NCCU Volleyball Drops Road Match to the Hornets



DOVER, Del. – Sophomore setter Vanila Pulu-Suliafu supplied 16 assists, freshman outside hitter Kamren Harper tallied nine kills sophomore libero Loren Johnson netted 17 digs to lead the North Carolina Central University volleyball team in a 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road loss at Delaware State University on Friday.
 
The Hornets remained in sole possession of third place in the league standings with the 25-15, 25-13, 25-23 victory. Delaware State improved to 17-6 on season, featuring a 7-3 ledger in league play.
 
Harper hit .333 on the way to her team-high nine kills. Freshman Tori Wilson and junior Abby Vacha both added six kills. Pulu-Suliafu and Johnson accounted for NCCU's two aces to complement their specialty roles. Freshman Emmie Modlin chipped in 10 digs.
 
DSU hit over .300 in each of the first two sets, winning both by double-digit points.
 
The Eagles kept the final set much closer with fans witnessing 13 ties and 10 lead changes in that frame, but a kill by Sydney Lewis clinched the narrow two-point set win for the Hornets.
 
Valeria Otero filled up the box score for the hosts with 12 kills, nine digs, two aces and one block assists for 14.5 points. Setter Malgorzata Andersohn set up a Delaware State attack that hit .267 for the match with 24 assists. Libero Jasmal Cruz had 26 digs.
 
NC Central (5-16 Overall, 4-6 MEAC) will next play at University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday at 2 p.m.
