NCCU’s Swepson Named MEAC Runner of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore Victoria Swepson was announced as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Runner of the Week after posting the top finish for North Carolina Central University at the Royals XC Challenge on Oct. 7.

Swepson completed the 5k course at McAlpine Creek Park in a time of 19:19 to place 78th overall. She finished in the top 30-percent of the results and was also the first runner from the three HBCU institutions to cross the finish line.

The local Durham, North Carolina, resident returned the maroon and gray lineup after missing one race due to injury and improved her PR 5k time by 20 seconds.

Swepson, who earned All-MEAC honors as a freshman with a ninth-place finish at the 2021 MEAC Cross Country Championships, was named the NCCU Department of Athletics Women's Student-Athlete of the Year in 2021-22.

The MEAC Runner of the Week award she earned for the week of Oct. 3-9 is the first of Swepson's collegiate career.

NC Central will next complete in the 2022 MEAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Delaware State University on Saturday, Oct. 29.
