NC CENTRAL COURT:

The Eagles picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Alabama State to begin play in the Campbell Invitational. NC Central (1-3 Overall) lost its last to matches in that event on Saturday, dropping straight-set matches to James Madison and the host Camels.

Sophomore setter Lauren Janok was named to the Campbell Invite All-Tournament Team. Janok leads the MEAC in assists per set (8.54) and aces per set (0.69). Janok, who also ranks in the top-10 of the MEAC in digs (3.08) and blocks (1.15) per set, has tallied at least 20 assists in all four matches this season.

Seniors Arlanda Faulkner and Ammaarah Williams top NCCU's scorers. Faulkner is leading the maroon and gray in kills per set (3.00) for a second straight season. Williams is filling up box scores with averages of 2.23 kills, 1.31 blocks and 0.31 aces per set. Williams leads the MEAC in blocks per set and her .404 hitting percentage is second in the conference.

Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Pieh is third in the MEAC with 4.31 digs per set in her first four matches at the libero position. Junior Abby Vacha is chipping in 1.92 kills per set and posted a career-high nine kills against James Madison. Senior Celene Morris follows with 1.62 kills per set, including a career-high eight kills in Friday's triumph over the Hornets. Morris is also tied with Janok for second on the team with 3.08 digs per set.

NCCU last played UNCG in 2019, losing in four sets. Faulkner recorded a double-double in that match with 10 kills and 11 digs.

UNCG COURT:

The Spartans have won their last four matches, including going a perfect 3-0 in the Spartan-Aggie Tournament last weekend. UNCG (5-1 Overall) is making some noise in non-conference play after being picked to finish last in the SoCon.

Senior Kayla White, a two-time all-conference selection at Metro State, joins the Spartans for one season and has immediately made a big impact on UNCG's attack. White is averaging 4.39 points per set, including team-best averages of 3.70 kills and 0.57 aces per set. White also tops the Spartans with 3.35 digs per set.

Junior Gabriela McHugh continues her reign as UNCG's top setter for a third straight season, averaging 10.26 assists per set for a Spartan squad that is hitting .218 on the season. Classmate Hannah Knier highlights UNCG's blocking presence as she is averaging 1.43 blocks per set.
