DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University redshirt senior running back Isaiah Totten has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for August 2021 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
 
Totten had a team-high 13 rushing attempts for 58 total yards in NCCU's season-opening 23-14 victory over Alcorn State University in the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge on August 28. Four games into his senior season, Totten leads a deep maroon and gray backfield in total attempts (30), total yards (110) and average yards per game (27.5).
 
The three-time All-MEAC running back, including first team honors in 2018 and 2019, is a 2021 Preseason All-MEAC selection. His numerous accolades also include team MVP (2018), HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-America Team Honorable Mention (2018), HBCU Gameday Preseason FCS All-American Second Team (2018) and BOXTOROW Preseason HBCU All-America Team (2018).
 
Totten currently ranks seventh on NCCU's career rushing list with 2,232 ground yards for an average of nearly five yards per attempt. He also has 15 total rushing touchdowns for the Eagles in 38 career games.
 
The local Apex, North Carolina, resident graduated from NCCU with a bachelor's degree in mass communication in May of 2020, finishing his undergraduate studies with a 3.57 cumulative grade point average (GPA). The three-time MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team honoree is currently pursuing an MBA degree.
 
Totten wants to get involved in the multimedia field after his expected graduation in the summer of 2022, with a plan to create a platform for HBCU sports to provide more in-depth national coverage for all sports that are important to HBCU's, as well as telling stories of the whole athlete – both on and off the field of play.
 
He is currently planning a canned food drive at a local grocery store in Durham with all the cans being collected and dropped off at a local food pantry prior to Thanksgiving.
