ELON, N.C. — Senior outside hitter
Arlanda Faulkner finished with a team-best totals of 10 kills and four aces for the North Carolina Central University volleyball team in a 3-0 loss to UNC Asheville at Elon University in Saturday's competition at the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for University Tournament.
A couple double-doubles by seniors Molly Hackett and Peyton McClinton led the Bulldogs to the 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 victory. Asheville (2-4 Overall) hit .296 for the match with those two both hitting over .400. Hackett hit .421 to finish to finish with 18 kills and 10 digs while McClinton posted a .419 mark with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Faulkner finished with 14.5 points for the Eagles, netting her 10 kills on 33 attempts for a .212 hitting percentage. Faulkner's four aces is a new career-high match total. She also added six digs and one block assist.
Senior
Ammaarah Williams added seven digs for the maroon and gray. Sophomore setter
Lauren Janok just missed a double-double with 21 assists and nine digs. Senior
Celene Morris and redshirt sophomore
Alyssa Pieh topped NCCU's back row with 24 and 20 digs, respectively.
The Eagles best chance at winning a set came in the middle frame. NCCU had its latest lead of the match in that set at 11-9 on a kill by junior
Abby Vacha. However, the Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run to pull ahead. A kill by Williams pulled the Eagles within three points, 23-20, but Asheville scored the next two points to finish off the closest game.
NC Central will next play three matches in the Duke Classic on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18, beginning with the host Blue Devils on Friday at 10 a.m.
