DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University track and field teams earned 12 top-10 finishes, including eight in the top-five with three event victories at the Vertklasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University on Thursday and Friday.
NCCU had two individuals win first place in their respective events. Senior
Bhrandi Crenshaw soared 11.94 meters in the women's triple jump, while senior
Marvin Jones leaped 1.99m in the men's high jump.
The combination of
Earl Green,
Donnell Carter,
Jazire Notice and
Gordon Lewis raced to first place in the men's 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 3:16.55.
Carter sprinted to a third-place finish in the men's 400m dash in 49.49 seconds. Freshman
Matthew Swepson set a new personal-best in the men's javelin throw with a 49.74m mark to place fifth in the event. In the men's triple jump, sophomore
Jaelyn Blanc finished fifth with a 13.75m leap. Junior
Colby Gibson finished sixth in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.91m.
For the NCCU women, the combination of
Jordan Braxton,
Kenydi McWilliams,
Del'Nique Penn and
Asia Bly finished fourth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.77. McWilliams placed ninth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.97, while Braxton ran the 100m dash in 12.39 to finish sixth in the event.
The Eagles had two individuals excel alongside Crenshaw in the women's triple jump. Senior
Taelor Ferguson finished fourth with a 11.49m mark. Junior
Zinzili Kelley also finished in the top-10 with an 11.00m leap to earn seventh place.
The Eagles return to action in the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T on April 10.
