Clark Earns Two Wins in NCCU’s Setback to Davidson

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Miles Clark rallied for his second straight singles win and teamed up with junior Amit Baran for a doubles victory, but Davidson College defeated the Eagles, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.

After dropping the first set 6-2 at the third singles position, Clark battled back to capture the next two sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-4 to defeat Davidson's Yash Parikh, earning his third singles triumph in his last four outings. Clark and Baran accounted for NCCU's lone doubles victory by beating Parikh and Douglas Macintosh, 6-4, at the No. 1 doubles spot.

NCCU junior Sebastian Pino demonstrated grit in his singles contest from the fourth position, evening the match with a tiebreak win in the second set against Wildcat Camden Mazzoni, before succumbing in yet another tiebreaker in the third set for a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-4) Davidson victory. Pino and partner Stipan Madzar lost the second doubles match, 6-4, to the Wildcat duo of Ogden Timpson and Maxwell Kachkarov.

Davidson (5-9) also secured straight-set singles wins at the first, second and fifth positions, while NCCU (1-4) forfeited at the sixth singles and third doubles spots due to having only five Eagles available to compete.

Up next, the Eagles host rival North Carolina A&T on Thursday, April 1 at 1 p.m. at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
