Eagles Win One Doubles Match in Loss to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Junior transfer Sebastian Pino (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Stipan Madzar (Split, Croatia) won their first doubles match paired together to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team in a 7-0 non-conference road loss to Charlotte on Saturday.

The two teams moved the match indoors at Life Time Charlotte due to the rainy weather in the area.

Pino and Madzar were making their maroon and gray debut along with freshman Shaka Cristellotti (Trento, Italy).

The Eagles tandem picked up their win at No. 2 doubles. Pino and Madzar knocked off the 49ers junior duo of Henry Lieberman and Leo Menezes by a 6-3 score.

A 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles provided Charlotte with the first team point as NCCU forfeited No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to only having five active players.

The 49ers won all five singles matches contested in straight sets to preserve the shutout team score.

Charlotte improved to 5-3 on the season.

Junior Amit Baran won the most games in singles play for the Eagles, dropping his No. 2 showdown 6-4, 6-1 to senior Ignasi de Rueda.

NC Central (0-1) is next scheduled to play at Campbell University on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
