DURHAM, N.C. — Senior
Miles Clark collected a singles win to account for the only team point for the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference loss to UNC Asheville at the NCCU Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
Clark claimed his win at the third position in NCCU's lineup. He held off sophomore Harry Thursfield by a 7-6 (5) 2-6, 6-3 margin for his fifth career win with the Eagles.
Freshman
Stipan Madzar was one game away from winning his top-positioned match for NCCU, but senior Oli Nolan won the final three games of the third set to squeak out the win. Nolan prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
UNC Asheville won the other three singles matches contested in straight sets as the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the season. The Eagles dipped to 0-2.
Clark partnered with junior
Amit Baran for the tightest doubles match, but the Bulldog tandem of senior Charlie Morkel and freshman Jon Brann Reid prevailed 6-4 to complete the doubles sweep for the visitors.
Morkel (3-0) stayed undefeated on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Baran at No. 2 singles. Reid held off junior
Sebastian Pino by a 7-5, 6-2 margin at No. 4 singles. Junior No. 5 Leo Bierbaum also improved to 3-0 on the early campaign with 6-2, 6-1 victory over NCCU freshman

NC Central is next scheduled to host Longwood University on Friday, March 5 at 3 p.m.
