DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Celene Morris has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2021 in recognition of her outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom.
 
For the month of September, Morris played in all 35 sets and ranked second on the team with 3.31 digs per set. She also provided 1.40 kills per set over that span.
 
Morris reached the double-digit digs six times over the course of the first full month of the season, including a season-high 21 digs in a five-set affair at UNCG. On the final weekend of September, Morris posted 11 digs and seven kills in a win against Morgan State and 15 digs, seven assists and five kills in a win against Coppin State as the Eagles started MEAC play 2-0.
 
The Eagles hold a winning 5-4 league record on the season with Morris contributing and average of 3.11 digs per set, which ranks ninth in the MEAC.
 
Morris has played in 82 matches for the maroon and gray over four seasons at NCCU and has 1,442 career assists, which ranks fifth most in the modern era. The backup setter has been used in more of a utility role her senior season, both for her ability to serve as a defensive specialist and as hitter to deepen NCCU's attack.
 
In her time at NCCU, Morris has annually been named to the MEAC Volleyball All-Academic Team and MEAC Commissioners All-Academic Team. She also obtained the Eagle Excellence Academic Award for NCCU volleyball after her junior season.
 
Morris, who hails from Rockford, Illinois, boasts a 3.936 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a psychology major at NCCU. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and is in the NCCU Honors Program as a Dean's List student-athlete. After she graduates from NCCU, Morris plans to attend law school.
