DURHAM, N.C. – Senior outside hitter
Arlanda Faulkner led all players with 15 kills to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University volleyball team in a 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) loss to visiting Howard University Friday evening inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Faulkner matched her season-high total of 18 points in a match as she also led the Eagles with two aces and completed her third double-double of the season with 13 digs.
The Bison had to rally from late deficits of 16-11 and 21-15 in the second and fourth sets, respectively, to claim the 18-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 victory. Howard 8-11 Overall, 5-2 MEAC) remains in sole possession of second place in the league standings with the triumph.
Senior
Ammaarah Williams continued her strong play for the maroon and gray, notching her fifth double-digit kill performance in league play with 14 kills. She added five block assists for 17.5 total points.
Sophomore setter
Lauren Janok filled up the box score once again with 39 assists, eight digs, five blocks (one solo, four assists), three kills and one ace. Senior
Celene Morris matched Faulkner with 13 digs to go along seven kills.
Williams ripped a perfect seven kills on seven attempts in leading the Eagles to the opening set win in the first. Howard leveled the match with a closing 14-6 run the second set. The Bison then hit .345 in the third set to take the lead in the match. NCCU constructed its 21-15 advantage in the fourth behind seven Faulkner kills in the set. However, Howard rattled off seven straight points on Bria Woodard's service rotation to start a closing 10-2 run.
Freshman Cimone Woodard and junior Tamar Wells paced the Bison with 12 kills apiece. Bria, twin sister of Cimone, followed closely with 10 kills. Senior setter Alexa Cardona netted a double-double of 32 assists and 13 digs. Howard served up 10 aces, including four off the arm of sophomore Amari Patterson.
NC Central (4-11, 3-3) next hosts MEAC foe Norfolk State on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
