DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior libero Yomaries Villegas has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2020 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
 
Villegas posted her second straight semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in the fall to increase her cumulative GPA at NCCU to 3.936.
 
The Ocala, Florida, resident was named NCCU volleyball team MVP last season.
 
Villegas played libero in all 32 matches and ranked sixth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with 3.72 digs per set. She reached double-digit digs in 27 matches, including her match-high total of 23 digs twice against Campbell University and Delaware State University.
 
In her first season with the Eagles after transferring in from College of Central Florida, Villegas also ranked second on the team with 0.35 aces and 1.06 assists per set.
 
Villegas is a behavioral social science major at NCCU with a concentration in psychology and was named to the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team in 2020. She plans to attend nursing school after she graduates from NC Central.
