DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Frida Cnossen has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2020 in recognition of her outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom.
 
Cnossen was named the Chancellor's Award winner alongside teammate Sofia Miller for having the highest grade point average (GPA) out of all NCCU senior student-athletes in 2019-20.
 
In limited playing time over four years at NCCU, Cnossen tallied 10 single and 10 doubles wins since joining the program in 2016-17. She missed the 2017-18 season as a medical red shirt and had her 2019-20 season cut short due to the Coronavirus threat.
 
Cnossen bounced back from injury to earn First Team All-MEAC honors for the Eagles in 2018-19 with a team-best eight singles wins. She has has earned two MEAC Player of the Week awards and one MEAC Rookie of the Week award. Cnossen has always played in the top two positions of NCCU's singles lineup.
 
The resident of Laren, Netherlands, completed a flawless 4.0 GPA as a biomedical sciences major before graduating NCCU in May. Cnossen has garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete and MEAC All-Academic Team laurels multiple times.
 
Cnossen next plans to use up her last year of collegiate athletics eligibility at another institution while pursuing a master's/PhD in the biological field before eventually returning home to pursue another master's in scientific illustration, which is her ultimate goal to work in a field where you can combine science with art. Cnossen did an internship with Kyoto University in Japan last summer as part of the Amgen Scholars Program.
 
For her Senior Salute, Cnossen reminisced that her whole experience at NCCU was amazing. She believes the journey of growing as a team and working together towards one goal makes it special. College tennis does not exist in The Netherlands, so she will always cherish the experience to play collegiately the United States.
