Lady Eagles Drop Road Match at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Host UNCG won its third straight match with a 7-0 non-conference dual victory over the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in Tuesday's tilt that was moved to the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

The Spartans won all six singles matches in straight sets and swept doubles as UNCG improved to 4-7 on the season.

Junior No. 1 Maru Berghaus and senior No. 6 Sofia Miller won the most games for the Lady Eagles in a pair of 6-2, 6-4 losses. Berghaus dropped her match to sophomore Erika Barquero, who earned All-SoCon Freshman Team honors last year. Miller was held off by another sophomore in Ariana Chan.

Miller also competed in the tightest doubles match with junior partner Polina Sakharova. They were edged out, 7-5, by juniors Emily Ory and Tayah Cross.

NC Central returns home to host Western Carolina University on Thursday at 4 p.m.
