Eagles Sweep Greyhounds for First Win

BALTIMORE, Md. — The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team won all six singles matches to finish off its first dual-match victory of the season with a 7-0 win over host Loyola University Maryland at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club Friday evening.

Sophomore Amit Baran found himself in the only three-set affair, but he was able to come away the triumph like his other five Eagle teammates to help preserve the sweep. Baran outlasted sophomore Benny Glezer by a final score of 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

Sophomores Thanos Spyropoulos (6-1, 6-4) and Christos Dagklis (6-3, 6-1) won on courts one and three, respectively, for the maroon and gray. Junior Miles Clark (6-3, 6-2) netted his win in the fourth position in NCCU's lineup. Seniors No. 5 Pablo Juez Torres (6-2, 6-1) and No. 6 Sebastian Bromley (6-3, 6-0) were the most efficient Eagles as they both lost just three games in their corresponding conquests.

Spyropoulos and Clark are tied for the team lead in singles wins with three each. Dagklis got in the win column for a second time while the wins by Baran, Juez Torres and Bromley were all their first of the spring season.

NCCU seized the first team point by winning the top two doubles draws. Spyropoulos and Dagklis produced a 6-3 win while Baran and Clark cruised to a 6-2 victory.

Baran and Clark improved to 3-5 as partners while the win by Spyropoulos and Dagklis was the first of the season for that partnership.

Loyola (2-3) survived a tiebreaker in the third doubles tilt to account for the only Greyhound win of the day, but that lone doubles victory was not enough for a team point.

NC Central (1-7) will go for a second straight win in as many days when the Eagles visit fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Howard University in a non-conference clash on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
