DURHAM, N.C. — Senior
Pablo Juez Torres was the only Eagle to win a set as the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 non-conference dual match against visiting Longwood University Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers improved to 4-3 on the season while the Eagles remained winless on the season at 0-7.
Juez Torres won his first set in his No. 4 singles match, but freshman Ignacio Sandoval was able to rally for the win. Sandoval clinched his comeback by a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore
Thanos Spyropoulos nearly won his first set as well atop NCCU's lineup. However, junior Guilherme Sergio won a tiebreaker 7-0 to narrowly take the first set, 7-6. Sergio then completed the straight-set triumph with a 6-4 win the second set.
Junior No. 3
Miles Clark lost both of his sets by just two games, falling 7-5, 6-4 to sophomore Guillermo Cagigas.
Sophomore No. 2
Amit Baran (6-1, 6-3), senior No. 5
Sebastian Bromley (6-2, 6-2) and freshman No. 6
LaQuon Gilchrist (6-1, 6-1) all lost in straight sets.
NC Central next hosts Radford University on Monday at 2 p.m.
