Clark Wins in NCCU’s Home Opener, Camels Take Match

DURHAM, N.C. — Junior Miles Clark picked up the lone win for the Eagles as the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team lost a 6-1 non-conference dual match to Campbell University in Monday's home opener at the NCCU Tennis Courts.

Clark tallied his second singles win of the early season with a straight-set triumph on court four. Clark knocked off freshman Robin Angles 6-2, 6-4.

The Camels, who are the defending Big South Conference regular season co-champions, won the other eight singles and doubles matches to secure their first team victory of the season. Campbell improved to 2-1.

Sophomore No. 2 Amit Baran took an early lead of a reigning BSC all-conference honoree, but Campbell senior Bastien Houn was able to fight back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.

On the third court, sophomore Christos Dagklis held a 5-3 lead in his first set before senior Ondrej Labik rallied to win the next four games and take the match 7-5, 6-4.

Campbell won the other three singles matches in straight sets while also taking all three doubles matches.

In the tightest doubles bout, senior Raphael Calzi and freshman Gustavs Lukstins topped the NCCU sophomore tandem of Dagklis and Thanos Spyropoulos.

NC Central (0-6) will continue its three-match homestand by hosting Longwood University on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.
