NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University senior Corneisha Mitchell has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the JDL January College Kick-Off indoor track & field meet on Sunday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
 
A native of Chandler, Arizona, Mitchell has made an immediate impact at NCCU since transferring from Hampton University. She won her third event title in four tries so far in the indoor campaign, taking the weight throw on Sunday with a MEAC-best mark of 18.81 meters (61 feet, 8.5 inches). Mitchell was also second in the shot put with a distance of 12.77 meters.
 
In her first competition at NCCU on Dec. 7, Mitchell earned event victories in both the women's shot put (13.76m) and the weight throw (18.45m). She currently ranks second in the conference in the shot put.
 
The NCCU indoor track & field teams return to action on Jan. 24-25 at the Liberty University Kickoff in Lynchburg, Virginia.
