WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In North Carolina Central University's first indoor track & field competition since the holiday break, NCCU claimed 17 top-3 performances with six event wins at the JDL January College Kick-Off on Sunday in Winston-Salem.
NCCU senior
Corneisha Mitchell won her third event in just her second meet of the season by posting a mark of 18.81 meters in the women's weight throw. She also placed second in the women's shot put with a toss of 12.77m.
NCCU junior
Gordon Lewis was the first to cross the finish line in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.97 seconds, then joined
Donnell Carter,
Jazire Notice and
Malik Miles to win the men's 4x400m relay in 3:24.87.
NCCU sophomore
Olivia Andrews ran to victory in the women's 400m dash with a time of 57.96, junior
Marvin Jones leaped 2.06 meters to beat the competition in the men's high jump, and freshman
Jaelyn Blanc won the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.61m.
The Eagles return to action on Jan. 24-25 at the Liberty University Kickoff in Lynchburg, Virginia.
